What this site is
Real Leonida is an unofficial travel guide to the real Florida places that Grand Theft Auto VI’s state of Leonida is based on. It is built for people who watched the trailers, or played the game, and want to stand in the real thing: to walk the Art Deco strip Ocean Beach is drawn from, drive the bridge Jason’s Keys are built on, or ride an airboat through the real Grassrivers.
Plenty of sites already answer “what is this place based on”. We answer the next question: how do you go there. Every place page tells you what it is in the game, what it is in real life, and how to visit, with the practical details a trip needs. The trips section strings the places into itineraries you can actually book.
We are fans who travel, not a travel company, and we have no connection to the people who make the game. The game’s names are theirs. The Florida is everyone’s.
How matches are graded
Every place page carries a confidence level, and we try to use the same words in the text as on the label:
- Confirmed: Rockstar named it. The game location has an official name that matches the real place, or Rockstar has said so directly.
- Strong: a clear match. A specific building, sign, bridge or landmark in official footage lines up with the real place beyond reasonable doubt.
- Likely: fans have matched it. The comparison is convincing and widely agreed, but rests on general resemblance rather than a single unmistakable detail.
- Possible: it looks like it draws on the place. A reasonable guess about inspiration, and we say so.
When in doubt we drop a level. A place page that overstates its match is a wasted trip for someone, and that is the one thing we are trying not to cause.
What we do not do
No leaks. Nothing on this site comes from stolen footage, datamined files or unofficial map reconstructions. We use Rockstar’s trailers, screenshots, the Extended Look, its website and its interviews, and nothing else.
No Rockstar imagery. We do not embed trailer frames or screenshots. We describe the shot in words and show you photographs of the real place, credited to their photographers.
No plot spoilers. We stick to what the trailers show about the characters and the setting. If you are avoiding story details, this site is safe to read.
Corrections
Facts about real places go stale: hours change, tolls change, a bar closes. If you find something wrong, or you visited and it was not as described, we want to know. Corrections are welcome through the site’s contact form, which is coming, and until then through the social links in the footer. Tell us the page and what you saw, and we will fix it and note the date the page was updated.
