Ambrosia is Leonida's farm country, and the trailers' sugar refinery, cane fields and long straight roads are a clear match for the towns around the south shore of Lake Okeechobee: Clewiston, where U.S. Sugar has its mill, and Belle Glade and Pahokee across the fields to the east. This is the least visited part of Florida on the site and the least like a holiday. It is also the one that looks most exactly like the game, because a sugar town has not been prettied up for anyone. The lake itself and the cattle country to the north are graded lower, as good places to see rather than confirmed shots.
Ambrosia works as a long day from Miami or as the inland leg of a bigger loop, since it sits between the Everglades and the coasts. Drive US-27 north through the fields to Clewiston, follow the lake road around the Herbert Hoover Dike, and come back down State Road 80 through Belle Glade. Harvest season, roughly October to April, is when the cane is being cut and burned and the region is at its most atmospheric; it is also when the dike trail and the lake are pleasant to be outside on. Bring cash for the roadside stands and expect the places on these pages to be working farms, not attractions.
