In the game
Rockstar introduced Cal Hampton alongside Trailer 2 as Jason’s friend, a man who, as Rockstar puts it, feels safest at home. The trailer shows what fans take to be that home: a mobile home under trees, screens glowing inside, and the kind of lot where the mailbox is a long walk from the door. Fans placed it in Ambrosia’s backcountry, the inland farm-and-swamp belt between the sugar towns and the coast.
There is no single real building to match here, and this page does not pretend there is. What fans have matched is a type of place: rural Florida west and south of Lake Okeechobee, where mobile homes sit on acre lots down sand roads with Posted signs on the fence. Hendry County around LaBelle is the most drivable version of it. Call the match likely for the landscape, and do not go looking for Cal’s actual driveway.
The real place
LaBelle is the Hendry County seat, a river town of a few thousand people on the Caloosahatchee, halfway between Fort Myers and Clewiston on SR 80. It has a courthouse square, a riverfront park under old oaks, and a reputation built on cattle, citrus and the Swamp Cabbage Festival, which has celebrated the heart of the sabal palm every February since the 1960s.
Outside town the roads go straight and then stop being paved. It is pasture, palmetto, pine, cypress heads standing in wet ground, and homes of every kind at the end of long tracks: ranch houses, doublewides, single trailers with a truck and three dogs. West of town the Fort Denaud swing bridge, a one-lane hand-cranked bridge over the river, is a genuine relic. East, the Ortona lock lifts boats on the cross-state waterway.
The detail a GTA fan will recognize is the light through the trees at the end of a sand road, and the satellite dish on the roof of the trailer at the end of it.
Go there
Drive SR 80 from Fort Myers, or come the other way from Clewiston. Stop in LaBelle for the river park and a walk around the square, then take any county road north or south, CR 78 along the river or SR 29 toward Immokalee, and wander. Keep to paved public roads. The Ortona lock has a small Army Corps campground if you want to sleep by the water.
Lunch is a diner or a Mexican place in LaBelle; the town has a few that have been there for years, and any busy one is fine. If you come the last weekend of February, the festival brings a parade, a rodeo and swamp cabbage served every way there is.
The honest warning: this is private country and people mean their signs. Do not turn into driveways, do not photograph homes, and expect dogs. Cell coverage drops fast off the highway. In summer, mosquitoes and heat make the backroads miserable, and storms flood the sand roads.

- Lake Okeechobee: the big inland lake: Moore Haven, up SR 78, has a dike access point.
